Nature is a British interdisciplinary scientific journal. Книга проф. А. Валицкого во многом уникальна и, несмотря на время, прошедшее после выхода ее первого издания, ни в России, ни за рубежом так и не появилось что-либо близкое по объему и глубине анализа правовых идей русских либералов XIX — начала XX в. В книге рассматриваются правовые и политические идеи шести ключевых фигур русской либеральной мысли: Б. Н. Чичерина, В. С. Соловьева, Л. И. Петражицкого, П. И. Новгородцева, Б. А. Кистяковского и С. И. Гессена. Все эти мыслители представляют антипозитивистский лагерь русской правовой мысли, поэтому критике ими правового позитивизма автор уделяет большое внимание. Кроме того, автор анализирует процесс трансформации классического либерализма в либерализм социальный. Книга интересна также тем, что в ней содержится весьма подробный анализ идей русского теоретического антилегализма, его общеевропейских и специфически российских корней.
