«Живописное обозрение» (в 1872-1873 гг. - «Живописное обозрение стран света»)- еженедельный иллюстрированный журнал для семейного чтения, издавался в Петербурге в 1872-1905 гг. Подзаголовки: в 1874 - «Иллюстрированный журнал путешествий, исследований и проч.»; с 1875 - «Иллюстрированный журнал»; с 1895 - «Художественно-литературный журнал». Содержание - естественные и исторические науки популяризаторского уровня. С 1875 тематика журнала стала общелитературной. Помещались биографические очерки о выдающихся художниках и репродукции картин.
В журнале принимал активное участие А.К. Шеллер (А. Михайлов), печатались произведения поэтов: Я.П. Полонского, К.М. Фофанова, К.Д. Бальмонта, проза Н.С. Лескова, Д.Н. Мамина-Сибиряка, Вас.И. Немировича-Данченко, И.Н. Потапенко, Ф.К. Сологуба; переводы из произведений иностранных писателей - Альфонса Доде, Анатоля Франса, Брет-Гарта и др.
С 1887 г. издание считает себя связанным с журналом «Живописное обозрение достопамятных предметов из наук, искусств..., издаваемое Августом Семеном» в Москве с 1835-1836 г. и соответственно меняет счет годам издания: До 49 № включительно этот год считался 15-м, а с 50 № оказался 52-м, затем 1888 год назван 53-м и т. д.

The battle of the Thames was the culmination of a bloody campaign that saw American forces clash with the British and their Native American allies on multiple occasions. In a battle that included the future US president William Henry Harrison, American naval hero Oliver Hazard Perry and the legendary Shawnee leader Tecumseh the Americans prevailed, due in part to their imaginative use of Kentucky mounted riflemen to charge British regular infantry and artillery. Their victory allowed them to secure the North-West frontier, a crucial strategic gain in the War of 1812.

Designed in the 1950s, the US Marines' M50 Ontos and the US Army's M56 Scorpion were both intended to be fast, light, air-droppable tank-killers for the Cold War battlefield - an answer to the cumbersome and ineffective World War II-vintage tanks that had taken to the battlefield during the Korean War. Although they shared the aim of bringing light, mobile and lethal antitank firepower to the infantry the two vehicles varied wildly in design to cater for their unique mission demands. They first saw service in the Lebanon intervention of 1958 but it was in the Vietnam War that they made their name, with the M50 Ontos seeing intense combat action in the Battle of Hue in 1968.

As infantry units advanced across Europe the only support they could rely on from day to day was that provided by the heavy weapons of their own units. While thundering tanks struck fear into the hearts of their enemies it was the machine guns, mortars and light cannon that proved to be most important, causing the majority of casualties suffered during World War II.
