Рот, Филип [Милтон] (Philip Roth) (р. 19.03.1933, Ньюарк, Нью-Джерси) — прозаик. Выходец из семьи еврейских иммигрантов. Учился в ряде американских университетов, где впоследствии преподавал литературу. Дебютировал рассказами, появлявшимися в периодике с середины 50-х гг.; вместе с повестью «Прощай, Колумбус» (Goodbye, Columbus, 1959) они составили первую книгу прозаика, высоко оцененную критикой и удостоенную в 1960 г. Национальной книжной премии.
