Настоящий сборник является седьмым в непериодической серии «Из истории международных связей русской литературы», выпускаемой со второй половины 1960-х гг. Сектором взаимосвязей русской и зарубежных литератур Института русской литературы (Пушкинского Дома) АН СССР. Инициатором серии был основатель сектора и его руководитель на протяжении четверти века — академик Михаил Павлович Алексеев (1896—1981). Поставленная ученым цель сборников состояла в том, чтобы предпринять ряд частных исследований наиболее существенных вопросов литературных взаимосвязей, что позволило бы в итоге «составить полный и систематический свод данных о постепенном распространении в русской литературе XVIII—XIX вв. важнейших произведений западноевропейских писателей, чтобы можно было представить себе с наибольшей полнотой картину становившегося все более интенсивным взаимообмена между русской литературой и отдельными литературами Западной Европы за два последних века».

Bayesian variable selection has experienced substantial developments over the past 30 years with the proliferation of large data sets. Identifying relevant variables to include in a model allows simpler interpretation, avoids overfitting and multicollinearity, and can provide insights into the mechanisms underlying an observed phenomenon. Variable selection is especially important when the number of potential predictors is substantially larger than the sample size and sparsity can reasonably be assumed.
