Английский истребитель-разведчик De Havilland DH-2 (1915) Английская фирма Airco (Aircraft Manufacturing Company, Ltd) весной 1915 года предложила военным одноместный истребитель с толкающим винтом. Создал самолет Джеффри де Хевиленд. Это был уже не первый самолет такой схемы, созданный этим конструктором, но первым одноместным и с ротационным двигателем. К толкающему винту конструктор обратился вынужденно, поскольку в отсутствие синхронизатора только так можно было обеспечить защиту передней полусферы без риска повредить пропеллер. Англичане отказались использовать отражатель Гарроса, считая это приспособление бесперспективным паллиативом. С другой стороны, они вполне оценили жестко зафиксированные пулеметы, наводимые разворотом всего самолета. Поэтому пулемет на DH.2 стоял неподвижно. На самолете использовались американские пулеметы «Льюис» и «Виккерс». Их выпускали по лицензии с 1913 года в Льеже, Бельгия. Пулеметы состояли на вооружении бельгийской и английской армий. Скорострельность составляла 600-650 выстрелов в минуту. Эти пулеметы устанавливали на английские самолеты с 1914 года. Самолет DH.2 представлял собой английский ответ на немецкие истребители «Фоккер Е» и D. Самолет DH.2 был готов в мае 1915 года и 1 июня его облетал сам де Хевиленд. Завершив испытания, прототип (№ 4732) 26 июля отправили во Францию для испытания в боевых условиях. Но уже в первом боевом вылете, состоявшемся 9 августа 1915 года, пилот капитан Роналд Максвелл-Пайк был сбит и умер от ран. Самолет, правда в разбитом состоянии, попал в руки противника.
