So what is the deal with an electric short? Well, a Short gets its name from the fact that it is a condition in which the electricity in the circuit is taking a shorter path from the positive post to the negative post of the power source, instead of it taking the original path that was designed for it to take. It can happen when a foreign piece of metal touches two points in a circuit, thereby creating a bridge between the two points in the circuit. It can also happen when two conductive parts of a circuit somehow come in contact with each other, such as the copper core inside of an electrical wire coming in contact with another electrical wire’s copper core. This kind of electrical problem can cause sparks, destroy circuits or even worst, start a fire. Electrical shorts can also go by another name such as electrical bridging.
