UM66T/BT66T is a melody generating IC commonly used in calling bell, phone, toys, musical bell in doors, home security alarm systems, burglar alarms etc and it is a three pin IC looks like a transistor. IC's first pin is ground, the second is VCC and the third is the melody output. And supply voltage that can be given to the IC is in the range of 1.5 Volts to 4.5 Volts. The UM66T/BT66T is a CMOS type IC and it consumes very small power for the operation. The Melody generator will reset when the power is turned on and then the melody begins from the first note.
The melody generator has an inbuilt beat and tone generators, the time base for beat and the tone generators are inbuilt oscillators. The tone generator and beat generator are programmed dividers, and the tone generator produces certain frequency and these frequencies are a factor of the oscillator frequency. The beat generator of the IC contains 15 beats, and four beats out of 15 can be selected. The IC has a 62 notes ROM to play music and a set of 4 bits controls the scale code while 2 bits control the rhythm code.
