Digital electronics is an interdisciplinary subject of electronics, electrical, information technology, computer science engineering and sciences domain. Digital Electronics has been written as per the syllabus of Digital Electronics, Digital Circuits and Logic Design of various universities like PTU, GNDU, PU, SLIET, DU, PEC, NITs and Thapar University. The book provides a comprehensive coverage of the fundamental aspects of digital electronics. It not only explores the theoretical and practical aspects of digital circuitry, but also gives a glimpse of experience and classroom interaction of the authors.
The world is going digital. Every aspect of life nowadays has a digital component. The tremendous growth of digital technology can be analyzed from the wide variety of industrial machines, medical equipment, household appliances, e-banking, e-booking, e-governance etc., which are blessed with digital applications. The applications of digital technology have been increasing day-by-day. The important reason behind the tremendous growth of digital technology is the advent of Integrated Circuits and the growth of very large scale integration techniques.
This book is a study of modern digital systems. It teaches fundamental principles of digital systems in a blended way. The text provides a thorough knowledge of digital electronics for students in electronics, electrical, computer science and allied disciplines. The text discusses in depth the working of digital electronic systems, and forms a comprehensive course in digital systems for the proper understanding of subject matter to the young aspirants of undergraduate courses. This book is also helpful for competitive examinations.
Chapter 1 provides a complete and comprehensive study of the basic number systems and conversions.
Chapter 2 introduces the arithmetic of number systems viz. binary, octal and hexadecimal. Simple methods have been incorporated to perform arithmetic operations of number systems.
Chapter 3 gives the introduction of binary codes and explores various applications of these codes in digital systems.
Chapter 4 discusses the basic building blocks for a digital system. It covers basic gates, basic postulates and theorems of Boolean algebra with examples.
Chapter 5 discusses operation and characteristics of various digital logic families and their applications.
Chapter 6 represents the various methods to reduce the complexity of digital circuits using Karnaugh maps.
Chapter 7 explores the various sequential circuits, discusses various flip-flops and their applications in digital circuits.
Chapter 8 introduces the shift registers and describes the various methods to design counters.
Chapter 9 is devoted to the step-by-step procedures to design various types of combinational logic circuits viz. multiplexer, demultiplexers, adders and subtractors, etc.
Chapter 10 gives the introduction about the basic analog and digital conversion methods.
