This book presents a variety of techniques using high-frequency (RF) and time-domain measurements to understand the electrical performance of novel, modern transistors made of materials such as graphene, carbon nanotubes, and silicon-on-insulator, and using new transistor structures. The author explains how to use conventional RF and time- domain measurements to characterize the performance of the transistors. In addition, he explains how novel transistors may be subject to effects such as self-heating, period-dependent output, non-linearity, susceptibility to short-term degradation, DC-invisible structural defects, and a different response to DC and transient inputs. Readers will understand that in order to fully understand and characterize the behavior of a novel transistor, there is an arsenal of dynamic techniques available. In addition to abstract concepts, the reader will learn of practical tips required to achieve meaningful measurements, and will understand the relationship between these measurements and traditional, conventional DC characteristics.

The insertion of communication networks in feedback control loops complicates analysis and synthesis of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs), and network-induced uncertainties may degrade system control performances. Thus, this book researches networked delay compensation and event-triggered control approaches for a series of CPSs subject to network-induced uncertainties. The cyber-physical systems (CPSs) are new class of networked embedded systems, and tightly integrate computation, networking, and physical processes. Different from the traditional point-to-point system architecture, CPSs are spatially distributed systems, and the signals between the system components are transmitted via a communication network, such as the remote control of several mobile units, arrays of micro-actuators, and underwater acoustics. With the development of the science and technology, modern control systems are becoming more and more complex. Due to the limitation of space area, traditional local control approaches cannot satisfy the actual requirements, gradually. At the right moment, the networked embedded system is born to deal with the spatial control problems. Then, on the basis of the networked embedded system, cyber-physical systems (CPSs) are proposed as the extension in both size and complexity through control, computation, and communication together.

Terahertz dielectric resonator antennas (DRAs) provide ultrafast data transfer rates using large bandwidth and multimode operations, which make them ideal for high speed communication due to their low loss and high efficiency. They can work at microwave, terahertz or optical frequencies, and are compact in size, which makes them well suited for advanced applications in sensing, scanning and imaging. New geometries are being developed for conical optical DRAs, cylindrical optical DRAs and spherical optical DRAs. Spherical optical DRAs have features of super directivity which can be used in quantum radars. Cylindrical optical DRAs with photo diodes can be used for wireless energy harvesting.
