The text on Millimeter-Wave Antenna Technology brings forward the state of the art in antennas designed for millimeter-wave applications. The spectrum from 30 to 300 GHz is recognized as millimeter-wave, and frequency bands at 60 and 77 GHz are of particular interest, with major applications such as short-range communications and automotive radar. The drive toward 60 GHz wireless communications is a result of the major potential benefits offered by implementing systems in this band, two of which are miniaturization and a significant improvement on data rates compared to the 2.4 and 5 GHz systems used today. Aside from commercial applications, millimeter-wave systems are beneficial in defense applications as well, with short-range radars and communication networks being two areas of interest. Given the development of new integrated circuit technologies, miniaturized nodes, there are newer alternatives to implement mm-Wave systems on-chip and on-package. These implementation methodologies include the possibility for on-package antennas.
