Mr. James D. McCabe exposes short biographies of 38 North American people who lived during the end of 18th century and in the 19th and that in spite of the fact that they came from poor families, became either wealthy or triumphant in their life venture. This book seems to be a collection of expurgated excerpts taken from that epoch newspapers –or the like- emphasizing on work ethics and discipline.
Consequently, the book teaches that successful people do not whine over their adversity, instead, they accept it as part of life and use it as seed of inspiration. Therefore, no matter how many times they should fail, quickly evaluate the options, plan the activities to follow and enter in action, because as the book outlines it, the main characteristic of successful people is self-confidence and performance without delay.
Hence, although this book was published in 1871, it shows that to become a millionaire or an exceptional person requires toil, patience, perseverance and hopefulness, and resembles Bill Gates saying, “If you are born poor it’s not your mistake, but if you die poor it’s your mistake.”
