My book consists of true factual events that have occurred over the years, from WW1 and WW2 to the present day.
Many of the people’s war-time experiences that I have written about are quite horrendous. However, for the sake of future generations, fully understanding how terrible war is and the atrocities that were carried out by every nation, they should be made aware that it could happen at any time to them.
Also, the brave men and women who fought in WW1 and WW2 should never be forgotten.
Whatever happens, we should always try to rise above whatever crisis comes our way, otherwise we are a lost cause and civilisation.
In 1914 William was enlisted to fight in the 1st WW. At the time William was dug deep in the filthy trenches at Belgium fighting for his life along with many other brave men who were struggling to stay alive. As the bombs and shrapnel burst all around them, William and the other men who were aware of the mutilated and dead soldiers lying alongside them, could hear the heart-rending cries of the injured and dying above the din of the bombs landing close by, when suddenly a miracle occurred.
In the midst of the battle, the most amazing phenomenal sight of an angel appeared hovering between both fighting factions. Within seconds, all soldiers ceased fighting on either side and gazed in awe at the incredible being. Some soldiers dropped to their knees, bowing their heads and crossing themselves, while others were mesmerised and stared open-mouthed wondering what it could mean.
They then realised that it was Christmas and the angel was telling them that she was a symbol of peace. This sighting was to become known as the Angel of Montz, Belgium.
Throughout many difficult times, and seeing many of his comrades die in appalling conditions, William managed to escape unscathed from every danger and returned home in 1918. He said that it was not only the bodily injuries that many men suffered from, but like himself, it was the bad psychological problems that arose afterwards. Where the horrific memories and dire situations of what had occurred out there had risen and flooded their minds.
