Unlike many of the poorly drawn, "craft show" types of projects one might see advertised in woodworking magazines or catalogs--or even in well-intentioned books--this collection delivers clear, concise plans with sensitivity to the occasion, woodworker, and gift recipient. Clear illustrations, materials lists, explicit instructions, and random presentation of projects make the book easy to follow and a delight to read. Jacobson begins with a sound discussion of tools useful to both beginning and intermediate woodworkers. The levels of intricacy vary, yet most projects can easily be completed in a weekend. Utility of the individual projects is also highly variable, adding to interest. Jacobson relies heavily on larger power tools, though he also suggests applications for smaller tools. The index is useful. Recommended for any collection with a focus on do-it-yourself projects and as an antidote to the "cutesy-crafty" catalog plans.
