This is an extended edition. It added all the models of Soviet tanks and given some outstanding battles.
This book is dedicated to the light tanks of the USSR, which took part in the Second World War. Here are their tactical and technical characteristics, and also describes the history of creating and upgrading models.
Before World War II, the USSR had the most powerful armored forces in the world. The Red Army was armed with 23,000 light, medium and heavy tanks, none of which had yet a single state, not counting the obsolete French heavy tanks. Also, the USSR had a huge fleet of floating tanks, which were also not found in any army in the world and already at that time there were about 1,500 new tanks KV-1, KV-2 and T-34, 90% of which were deployed on the western border. At the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, more than 3,300 tanks took part in the attack.
There were a lot of light tanks in the USSR, both pre-war and produced and developed already in the Second World War. True, in this war, light tanks were already unable to cope with many tasks, but with their competent use they provided serious support to the infantry. Of the Soviet light tanks, the T-50 was particularly distinguished, recognized as one of the best light tanks of the time. However, it was issued very little for many reasons, and the Red Army used the T-60 and T-70 much more actively.
Also worth mentioning about the T-37A, T-38 and T-40 - the only ones in the World's second floating tanks. Unfortunately, basically they were used simply as light tanks, although there are also known cases of their use for the purpose, that is, for forcing water barriers.
