In the years following World War II, with a growing family and a business to run, I did not spend much time thinking abour my warcime experiences. Then, in 1995, as part of the fiftieth anniversary celebrations to mark the end of the war in Europe, a number of newspapers suggested that readers write to the editor with their story of VE Night, 1945. I did not write to a newspaper; insread 1 wrote to che owner of the Cock Hotel in Stony Stratford (now pan of Milton Keynes), where I had lived and worked during the war. I tried to put down in writing for him how we had so very energetica.lly celebrated VE night in the hotel with the owners of the time.
This effort awakened my interest in rhe imporcant part played during the War by three local srarely homes - Bletchley Park, Hanslope Park and haddon Hall - which formed the angles of a triangle covering North Buckinghamsbire.
