The radical, for the time, virtually all-metal construction of the AEG C.IV made it a robust and reliable reconnaissance and bombing aeroplane which was employed to great effect on the Western Front and in the far warmer climes of the Middle East theatre. Indeed, the metal constructuion was ideal for withstanding extremes of temperature, although one unforeseen drawback rendered many examples quickly unserviceable as author Peter M Grosz relates in his absorbing narrative. Several experimental developments were initiated and 300 of these aeroplanes were also ordered from the Fokker factory,no strangers to metal airframe production. This first class monograph includes over 65 archive images (with many close-ups),detailed scale drawings and colour notes by Ray Rimell who also contributes the rear cover colour plates.
