Miles M.14 Magister. Учебно-тренировочный самолет. В 1936-м, учтя успешный опыт эксплуатации партии самолетов «Хок Трэйнер» в школе резервистов, министерство авиации решило использовать их в учебных заведениях ВВС. Фирме предложили доработать машину под требования задания Т.40/36. Это задание было примечательно в двух отношениях: впервые Королевские ВВС решили в массовых масштабах использовать для первоначального обучения летчиков монопланы вместо традиционных бипланов и опять же впервые после окончания Первой мировой войны ВВС собирались заказать самолет деревянной конструкции. Результатом доработки «Хок Трэйнера» стал М.14, отличавшийся от предыдущих моделей в основном уширенными кабинами, сиденьями под парашюты и полным комплектом приборов для обучения «слепым» полетам. Вместо обтекателей - «штанов» на колеса надели каплевидные обтекатели и аккуратно закапотировали свободнонесущие стойки, лишенные теперь задних подкосов. Первый полет М.14 совершил в апреле 1937-го. Пилотировал его сам Майлс. В тот же день жена конструктора окрестила самолет «Мэджистер» - «Магистр». Через несколько недель машину перегнали на один из аэродромов для официальных испытаний. Но при первом же полете летчик-испытатель не смог вывести самолет из штопора и выбросился с парашютом. Как потом показали продувки в аэродинамической трубе, причиной стало изменение конфигурации кабин, повлиявшее на обтекание оперения. При некоторых режимах полета это уменьшало эффективность рулей. Положение исправили. Этот вариант назвали М.14А. На нем также внедрили ряд деталей из магниевых сплавов.
