This Book Is Not About Excel
No matter how much artificial intelligence, robotics, and other latest technologies are discussed, business decisions are still made by people. Often this has to be done in conditions of lack of information, when there is a lot of data, but there are few useful conclusions from them. And Excel, as a basic tool for most, should be mastered at least to solve this problem. I’m not a fan of Excel, but it’s still used even in large corporations, and you can’t ignore this. It just so happened: we all love him, hate him, and cannot do without him. For me personally, Excel is valuable in that you can test a hypothesis right in the source data file and sketch out a draft of a future dashboard or presentation in half an hour. A handy tool for managers and a foundation of digital skills for top managers. I would say this: no, this book is not about Excel. All principles, rules, and techniques are relevant for working in any BI system. If you know them, then even your first dashboard in BI will do better than beginners usually do.

This book is suitable for both, but it is written in such a way that everythingis clear to business users, even without technical knowledge. I presented the material in simple “human” language – just as I explain in my trainings and MBA programs in business schools. My goal is to show managers with different professional backgrounds how to “tame” data visualization, set a task to develop a dashboard, and control the quality so that the business gets a decision-making tool.
