SparxSystems Enterprise Architect (EA) is a logical choice for many companies and organizations: it combines a broad feature set with an affordable price. A quick look at the SparxSystems website UML modeling tools for Business, Software, Systems, and Architecture reveals that there are four editions, each of which comes in two flavors (standard and floating). Furthermore, there are three products that can work together:
• Enterprise Architect is the main product of SparxSystems. It is a feature-rich UML modeling tool that supports many other languages besides UML and also allows you to create your own modeling language.
• Pro Cloud Server allows you to open up the models you create to non-EA users. For example, you can create an Enterprise Architecture model and share it with business stakeholders. They can comment on the model via a web interface so they don’t need to install EA themselves.
• Prolaborate takes this collaboration a step further, making it easy to publish a part of your model and having others work on it. Also, it allows you to enable EA models in Confluence or SharePoint and to link them to items in Jira or Azure DevOps, so you can trace models to user stories.
For this book, we will need only Enterprise Architect.
