This book aims to teach the use of R language for practicing statistics in the context of data handling, presentation, and analysis. The book not only introduces basic concepts of R programming but also explains statistical concepts where necessary. A needful discussion on basic data structure such as vectors, matrices, arrays, and lists has been presented with examples. Exploratory examination and transformation of data, editing, importing, exporting, appending, merging, binning, generation of data, subsetting, dealing with outliers, and NA values have been given in this book. Recycling rule and performing different arithmetic have been explained with examples. Functions related to descriptive statistics and graphical representation of data have been discussed. The use of combination, permutation, probability, and some popular discrete and continuous probability distributions have been included through practical examples. For mean, proportion, variance, difference between means, confidence interval and comparison tests have been explained. Thus, this book would be a good companion to a text or course on statistics.
The book explains basic statistical concepts and demonstrates their implementation using R, including descriptive statistics, graphical representation of data, probability, popular probability distributions and hypothesis testing. It also explores linear and non-linear modeling, model selection and diagnostic tools in R.
It is intentionally desired that the user and learner of this book would be able to run the R code and observe the output from the code. That is why, in many cases, the output from code used in this book is not displayed. However, all the R-related commands (functions or objects) are printed in different font than the usual text for discrimination and better learning.
This book is not intended as a documentation or reference manual of R, but it does contain a lot of useful information about R programming. It is also not a book on R programming, although many codes are useful in R scripts. It is meant to be read, though not necessarily from cover to cover. This book mainly concentrates on the core functionality of R.
