In this book, various numerical methods are discussed in a comprehensive way. It delivers a mixture of theory, examples and MATLAB practicing exercises to help the students in improving their skills. To understand the MATLAB programming in a friendly style, the examples are solved. The MATLAB codes are mentioned in the end of each topic. Throughout the text, a balance between theory, examples and programming is maintained.
This book has been designed specifically for research scholars who want to study and apply numerical methods in science and engineering by using MATLAB®. The language is comprehensive and sufficient explanation is provided so that scholars can get insight into the numerical techniques and understand them easily. I have been teaching this subject for the last six years and have witnessed that many students are facing problems understanding MATLAB. By keeping this in mind, I have written this book so that any science or engineering scholar can easily solve problems through MATLAB. The numerical methods are explained; however, the main theme is to objectify use of numerical methods through MATLAB software. Every presented method has been explained with examples. The main steps which are kept in mind for MATLAB programming are elaborated in the form of an algorithm and the codes are developed. Keeping in mind the average scholar, the writing technique is kept as simple as possible. The good thing about this book is that the programs are illustrated according to the solved examples. For better understanding, the examples are solved in detail. So every topic is divided into four parts: the method, the hand computations that examine the inner workings, the basic steps for solving the example in MATLAB and the program code.
The material consists of topics that are covered by engineers and science scholars in research for numerical purposes like the solution of equations, interpolation, root finding methods, numerical integration, and initial and boundary value problems. Moreover, the system of equations has been fully emphasized. For example, in shooting and finite difference methods, the system of equations was less focused in the past. In this book the respected methods are explained in detail for the system of equations. This will aid in better understanding of the numerical execution of problems in research.
The material of this book is enough to cover a complete three credit hours course in addition to research. The programs mentioned in this book have been tested in MATLAB 2021a.
