Advances in Computers, Volume 131 is an eclectic volume inspired by recent issues of interest in research and development in computer science and computer engineering. Chapters in this new release include enabling technologies, opportunities, and challenges, A Perspective on Cancer Data Management using Progress and Challenges, Cyber Risks on IoT Platforms and Zero Trust Solutions, A Lightweight Fingerprint Liveness Detection Method for Fingerprint Authentication System, and Collaborating Fog/Edge Computing with Industry 4.0 – Architecture, Challenges and Benefits, Raspberry Pi-s for Enterprise Cybersecurity Applications.
Chapter 4, entitled “A realtime fingerprint liveness detection method for fingerprint authentication systems” by Yuan et al., as the name suggests, focuses on fingerprint authentication and fingerprint liveness detection as a prerequisite and essential step before fingerprint authentication. The chapter proposes a three-step lightweight and real-time fingerprint liveness detection technique. Experimental results with five public fingerprint datasets are presented and compared against some other advanced models, based on metrics such as speed, size, and performance.
Finally, in Chapter 6 entitled “Virtual Raspberry Pi-s with blockchain and cybersecurity applications,” Tanque and Bradford question running cybersecurity applications on small and constrained virtual Raspberry Pi-s. The chapter explores cybersecurity applications on virtual Raspberry Pi-s augmented with blockchains and investigates whether characteristics of virtual machines such as redundancy, replication, cloning, and agility can benefit cybersecurity applications on small devices augmented with blockchain technology.
