Like its predecessor, the second edition of this book is intended primarily for non-specialist users of electric motors and drives. Its aim was to bridge the gap between specialist textbooks (which are pitched at a level which is too academic for the average user) and the more prosaic ‘handbooks’ which are full of useful detail but provide little opportunity for the development of any real insight or understanding.
The second edition has been revised to take account of the many constructive suggestions received from readers, and to expand the sections dealing with current developments in the motors and drives scene.
Applications are spread throughout the text in order to emphasise the fact that there is no longer any automatic correlation between motor type and particular application.
