Boeing's history began in 1916 in the "Red Bam," now part of the Museum of Flight in Seattle. A biplane called the В & W, a single engine float plane, was the First aircraft built in the original manufacturing building.
Boeing's current wide-body aircraft manufacturing facility, where the 777 is built, is large enough to house Disneyland along with twelve acres of covered parking. In sharp contrast to the original red barn, the main building in Everett, Washington is eleven stories tall. By volume it is the largest in the world with assembly positions for twenty-eight aircraft.
The 777 is a fascinating aircraft to examine in detail. With all the new technology incorporated into this aircraft, there are many firsts for an airliner, ranging from size of the power-plants to new comfort features for the passengers and advanced features in the cockpit. As the most tested airliner in aviation history, the unique flight test operations should be of interest to the reader.
This volume of Airliner Tech starts with design and progresses chronologically through aircraft features, flight test and certification, airline operations, and details of the latest version of the 777, the stretched -300. The Boeing 777 book also gives a glimpse into the future.
