This book provides a systematic overview of watermarking and steganography methods for triangle meshes related to computer graphics and security. Information hiding is the technology to ensure data security by embedding data in multimedia to achieve covert communication, copyright protection, integrity authentication, or leak traceability. Digital steganography and digital watermarking are the two most important branches of information hiding: the former is mainly used for covert communication and the latter is mainly for copyright protection. With the rapid development of computer vision and 3D scanning technology, 3D models, especially 3D meshes, are widely used in 3D games, virtual reality, film and television animation, and industrial production. The popularity of 3D mesh makes it a suitable carrier for covert communication on the one hand, and the object of intellectual property protection on the other hand. However, the published monographs and textbooks on steganography and watermarking usually introduce information hiding methods based on images, audio, and videos, and rarely involve 3D meshes. The existing literature on 3D mesh steganography and watermarking is scattered in journals or conference papers in graphics, multimedia security, Artificial Intelligence, and other fields. Therefore, it becomes difficult to have a global-oriented view for the basic technology and advances of 3D mesh information hiding. Fortunately, this monograph written by Hang et al. timely met the need for a quick understanding of 3D mesh information hiding.
This book introduces the typical methods of 3D mesh watermarking, steganography, and steganalysis. In particular, the deep learning-based 3D mesh watermarking framework and 3D print-scan-resistant watermarking methods are introduced, which are the most exciting and promising directions in this field. There is no doubt that this book will be an important reference for anyone who wants to understand information hiding in 3D meshes. 3D information hiding is the subject of Hang’s doctoral dissertation, and several coauthors he invited have also been engaged in related fields for a long time.
